Intensive English
Course Aim:
This is a preparatory theme-based course designed to build students’ proficiency in reading, listening, speaking, presentation and writing skills. For the reading and vocabulary class, the course focuses on introducing reading in context employing the skills of skimming, scanning, reading for gist, and using context clues. Also, in the listening and speaking class, students will learn how to listen for main ideas and details with the aim of exposing them to native English speakers in real life situations. In addition, they will learn how to use a wide range of vocabulary in their speaking by giving them contextualized vocabulary lessons.
Course contents:
Skimming & scanning paragraph format, understanding narrative paragraph’s purpose, understanding inference, Descriptive paragraphs, Understanding paraphrase, Process paragraphs, Logical division paragraph, Summary Affixes, Figurative language. Local division essay, Idioms & collocations, Phrasal verbs, Opinion essay writing, Presentations
