Scientific Writing

Course Aim:
This course focuses on the development and use of research, critical analysis, organization and revision within the writing process. Students are given instructions in library and online research and methods of documentation, using quotations and source citations for professional papers using inductive and deductive reasoning, developing the skills of scientific argumentation, persuasion, evaluation and criticism needed for research paper. Most of the course work focuses on students’ work. Each student completes one minor and one major project during the term as well as a series of short response essays.
Course contents:
Introducing what research is, Identify the components of a research paper. Go over two academic journals. Discussing how to choose a research topic. ss sit in groups decide on a topic and write 3 or 4 research questions on this topic, APA style workshop: ss are to practice the format and do a class practice on APA citation and Style, discussing how to write research questions Create the rough outlines. Learn about how to write an annotated bibliography, introducing response writing
The components of a paragraph and responding to articles, how to write the literature review, Argumentative writing, and the Pro & con chart, discussing methodology Primary vs. secondary research, Choosing a sample Methodology, Instrument design and data collection methods: qualitative & quantitative, Results and discussion section in final paper.
