English II

This course builds on the skills developed in English-101 and introduces the student to the art of rhetoric and argumentation. It is developed to help students enhance their critical thinking skills as they move to more formal, academic discourse, using the four language skills, with a focus on reading, writing, and speaking. Emphasis is placed on identifying the elements of argument in advanced reading and listening contexts, the ability to address and respond to points of weakness in arguments through refutation and concession, and the ability to produce and defend a well-balanced argument in both academic writing and speaking.
